LEGO’s X-Mansion: Where are the missing pieces?

Fans of Marvel and the X-Men finally have all the details about the LEGO version of the X-Mansion which will be releasing in November. Despite the official reveal happening after months of leaks and speculation, the fan communities are stuck wondering why the X-Mansion is missing so much content.

Despite its price of $329.99 / £289.99 / €329.99 / R5 999, 3 093 piece count and 10 included minifigures, there’s still some key elements missing that many would have liked to see in what is supposed to be the ultimate X-Men product from LEGO.

The good news is that these items do exist, released earlier as separate sets. The bad news is just that: they’re separate sets. If you want a more complete LEGO X-Men collection you will have to spend more money on top of that huge pricetag.

Another note here is that LEGO’s Marvel theme has been going since 2012. With more than a decade of toys released since them, some X-Men adjacent sets have been released without the animated series branding. We won’t be including any of that here – only sets which are related to X-Men ’97 that are still available on toy shelves right now.

76281: X-Men X-Jet

Yes the famous X-Jet is sold by LEGO as a separate set. Released in January 2024 this set brought the ire of the community onto LEGO given its outrageous price of $84.99 / £74.99 / €84.99 / R1 599 against its measly piece count of 359 and selection of four minifigures.

While sales have happened since then to make this set a bit more palatable, even at a theoretical half price this is still an overpriced toy that is really banking on nostalgia to sell.

It’s a real shame too because, despite the low piece count, this is a nice recreation of the vehicle in all its dark blue glory.

The minifigures of Wolverine, Cyclops, Rogue and Magneto vary in desirability, especially for those planning to also buy the X-Mansion. Wolverine and Rogue seem to be the same across the two sets while Cyclops is slightly different with the X-Mansion version featuring more printing on the legs.

The Magneto figures are the biggest departure. The X-Mansion features the classic red suit and helmet version of the character while the one in the X-Jet is the “reformed” Magneto with the purple suit and long hair.

Minifigures aside the X-jet will make a great companion to X-Manion, but it’s a real annoyance that this approach to what the community has dubbed “physical DLC” is happening so often with LEGO. We recently reported on the same happening with the Star Wars Sail Barge which is missing Desert Skiffs and Sarlacc Pit, both sold in a separate set.

A minifigure of Beast (and an alternate version of Storm)

A common complaint of the X-Mansion in the few hours since its release has been a lack of the full cast of X-Men.

Beast is one of those missing minifigures but he is relatively easy to get.

Beast was included in LEGO’s Collectible Minifigure Series (CMF) as part of Marvel Studios Series 2. LEGO’s CMF theme is a collection of blind boxes where you pay a relatively small amount to get a random figure. You don’t need to randomly buy these bags until you get Beast either, as the boxes the CMF figures come in have QR codes on the bottom which you can scan to reveal the figure.

Technically the Marvel Studios Series 2 is retired now which goes against our rules of not being on store shelves, but we’ve seen these still available at many stores. Beast is also readily available on the aftermarket Bricklink platform priced around the same as its original RRP.

The Beast included in this CMF, which you can see above, has two faces which you can switch between by rotating the head. He also comes with a mug bearing the X-Men logo, a small buildable microscope and a stand. Here’s what that looks like.

The Marvel Studios Series 2 came with two more X-Men: Wolverine and Storm. Wolverine seems to be the same as the others but the Storm is very different.

Below see the new storm included in the X-mansion on the left, and on the right is the older Storm figure from the CMF series. Putting aside preference on which is the better minifigure, since the X-Mansion comes with a version of Storm, we don’t count her as “missing” like with the X-Jet and Beast.
