Sparking! Zero and Counter-Strike 2 battle for Steam sales supremacy

  • Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero couldn’t cinch the number on spot on Steam’s top sellers list.
  • Counter-Strike 2 is in first place thanks to in-game transactions.
  • Valve has released its weekly sales charts showing off the top performers from the last seven days.

Despite the immense popularity of new games like Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Silent Hill 2 remake, none can catch up to Valve’s own Counter-Strike 2 in terms of pure revenue. This comes from the weekly top sellers list from Valve itself which it publishes on Steam with the latest being for the period between 8th and 15th October.

As always, Valve publishes this data with the inclusion of free to play (F2P) games like Counter-Strike 2. In-game purchases are included in the revenue generation statistics which is why these F2P titles can compete. Looking at the top ten performers below and four of them (indicated by **) are F2P showing off the continual success of this business model.

  1. Counter-Strike 2**
  2. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
  3. Metaphor: ReFantazio
  4. PUBG: Battlegrounds**
  5. Throne and Liberty**
  6. EA Sports FC 25
  7. Silent Hill 2
  8. Steam Deck
  9. Dota 2**
  10. Diablo IV

The above list is correct at time of publication and the rest of the top 100 list can be found here.

Aside from the big F2P moneymakers and the sure bet of Dragon Ball, PUBG: Battlegrounds is a surprise here in fourth place. While PUBG has always circled the top performers since its release, it isn’t clear why it did so well this past week. Either the October special drops or Series 5 Fantasy League may have had players spending more money.

The most exciting thing to happen in PUBG recently was a crossover with Venom that was announced in the last week – see the short teaser below – but that is only for the Mobile version of the game.

The other surprise here is Silent Hill 2 being relatively low in seventh place. There seems to gave been a lot of hype around this game but it has been dropping on these sales charts since its release on 8th October. We have to assume that anyone who wanted the game either already purchased it, pushing up numbers in previous weeks, or is now waiting for sales.

Lastly there’s Diablo IV in the final position of the top ten. Its renewed interest and accompanying sales are almost certainly thanks to the new Vessel of Hatred paid DLC that also released on 8th October.
