The company that operates Abbott College, Crawford College, Varsity College and several other education institutions has announced its new group chief financial officer.

ADvTECH is a well established name in the private education sector and as such it has selected a well established financial professional to be its CFO. Effective from 1st February 2025, Hannes Boonzaaier will take up the mantle of group CFO. The appointment comes as a result of current group CFO Didier Oesch retiring after 19 years at the company.

The forthcoming CFO is currently the CFO of AfroCentric Group, a healthcare company that operates in Southern Africa. The executive has held that position since 2015, he joined the company in 2003. He is also a Chartered Accountant having completed his articles with KPMG in 1999.

During his time at AfroCentric, Boonzaaier has won several awards include CFO South Africa’s Transformation and Empowerment Award in 2019, the Board of Healthcare Funders Best Integrated Audit Report in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He has also the overall winner in the JSE Small Cap section Integrated Audit Reports at the Sunday Times Companies Secretaries Award in 2022.

“The Board would like to congratulate Hannes on his appointment and looks forward to the contribution that he will bring to the Group,” ADvTECH wrote in a SENS announcement.

Boonzaaier will join the education company as it prepares to break ground on a new private university in Sandton. The university will be developed on land formerly used as an FNB Training Centre and will combine several of ADvTECH’s schools on one property.

The university is set to officially open in January 2026 and will ultimately accommodate around 9000 students, the IIE’s announcement reads. Construction will take place in two phases, with the first phase to begin at the end of this year.

Congratulations to Boonzaaier on the appointment, we’re sure his years of experience will benefit ADvTECH.
