Announced in May this year, the Carry1st Africa Cup is about to reach its crescendo, with the Grand Finals for Call of Duty: Mobile taking place this weekend in Nairobi, Kenya.

To that end esports teams and players from across the continent will be competing in the Kenyan capital on Saturday, 23rd November, and Sunday, 24th November. The Grand Finals follow months of qualifiers, with the op players competing for a $15 000 (~R271 000) prize.

Organisers note that the Grand Finals will be live streamed on Carry1st’s YouTube and TikTok channels, as well as on broadcasters in the region (to be announced soon). Streaming starts at 13:30 Eastern African Time (EAT) daily on 23rd and 24th November, which is 12:30 for those in South Africa.

“Players from countries including Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa battling it out for glory,” Carry1st shared in a release with Hypertext. Also appearing will be, “Rising stars like Ghana’s Ruin (18 years old, competing internationally for the first time) and seasoned pros such as Nigeria’s Tony (three-time global leaderboard leader and TikTok creator).”

“This tournament offers a rare glimpse into Africa’s booming esports scene, projected to hit $60 million (7.74bn KES) this year. With such a dynamic lineup, it’s the perfect chance to spotlight the incredible growth of esports in Africa and the stories of its talented players,” it added.

Carrying the South African flag at the Grand Finals will be Noxious Gaming (NXG).

“After a dramatic turn of events involving the disqualification of another team, Noxious Gaming’s skill and determination secured them a spot in the finals. NXG is focused on proving they belong among Africa’s elite and has trained tirelessly for this moment,” organisers highlighted.
