The time is finally upon us to watch the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, likely one of the biggest value exhibition matches in the history of boxing. We’ll find out after that fact how much money the fight made, but since it is streaming on Netflix the raw PPV numbers won’t be anywhere close to Mayweather/McGregor or Mayweather/Pacquiao.
It is an important showcase for Netflix, which is hoping to attract new subscribers with more live sports events, including boxing and professional wrestling.
How to watch Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul in South Africa
South Africans will be able to watch the fight between Tyson and Paul only on Netflix, which is streaming the event live worldwide.
The fight is scheduled to take place at 20:00 ET on 15th November, which unfortunately means that locals will have to get up really early on Saturday morning to watch as it will take place at 3:00 CAT or South African time.
It will likely be the first thing that Netflix offers you when you boot the app up at that time, to make it easy for viewers to find.
What you should know about the fight
More for the entertainment factor than an athletic showcase or for a professional ranking, Tyson, who retired in 2005 will take on a man 31 years his junior in Paul. Paul has a record of 10-1 with his latest fight ending in a sixth-round TKO against Mike Perry in July this year. He began his career as a Disney channel personality and YouTuber.
Meanwhile, Tyson is one of the most decorated boxers who has ever lived, with a record of 50-6 and an 88 percent TKO ratio, meaning most of his fights end in him knocking out his opponents. In a coincidence, Tyson’s final bout in 2005 also ended in a sixth-round knockout against Kevin McBride.
Tyson’s greatest accolade is a 3-year-long reign as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, while Paul has never held a professional title in his 11-year boxing career. Tyson is also the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history when he beat Trevor Berbick at just 20 years old.
At a weigh-in before the bout on Thursday, Tyson slapped Paul and told interviewer Ariel Helwani that “Talking’s over.”
“I didn’t even feel it,” said Paul, the left side of his face still flushed from the strike. “I’m f%cking him up, he hits like a bitch. It’s personal now. He must die.”
