- Lenovo has shared its latest results for Q2 2024/2025, and unsurprisingly AI PCs are having an impact.
- It was able to secure a 24 percent market share on the back of increasing interest in AI-powered devices.
- AI PCs are expected to represent around 80 percent of the PC industry landscape by 2027, according to Lenovo.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is influencing every industry, but perhaps none more so in 2024 than the PC.
This is evidenced by the latest quarterly report shared by Lenovo in which AI-powered devices accounted for significant growth in a number of the company’s areas of business.
In its Q2 2024/2025 report, Lenovo explained that it was able to achieve a 24 percent year-on-year revenue increase to $17.9 billion. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter of year-on-year revenue growth for the company, with AI-powered devices cited as a key reason for the upward trajectory continuing.
It added that net income also saw a significant jump, up 48 percent year-on-year to $404 million, with the results accredited to Lenovo’s strategic investments in research and development, and its focus on innovation, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of Hybrid AI.
“The Group’s hybrid AI strategy and years of continuous investment in R&D and innovations are paying off, with its first phase of AI PCs, launched in China in May 2024, already reaching double digit share of its total notebook shipments in the China market,” Lenovo highlighted in a release to Hypertext.
“Recent launches of AI PCs for the global market with Lenovo AI Now have also been received positively. For enterprise AI, the Group is leveraging its full-stack hybrid infrastructure as well as Lenovo Hybrid AI Advantage to capture growth opportunities. This relentless focus on AI innovation as well as investment in R&D (up 10% year-on-year to US$548 million) is firmly establishing the Group’s market differentiation and industry leadership,” it continued.
Sticking with AI-powered devices and AI PCs in particular, Lenovo’s report pointed out that it expects the PC market to steadily recover and enter a new refresh cycle driven by AI PCs next year, which is something that Dell Technologies also recently shared.
On this front, it predicts that AI PCs will grow significantly to represent around 80 percent of the PC industry landscape by 2027.
The push for more on-device AI functionality is expected to do the same for the smartphone market too, according to Lenovo, so we could see more offerings from the Motorola arm of the business in then coming months.
As for desktop and laptop offerings, Lenovo says that its Intelligent Devices Group (IDG), “will continue to leverage its five-feature AI PCs to establish leadership in the AI PC market, while at the same time building a richer AI device portfolio.”
This is only the beginning then of the AI-powered era in personal and enterprise computing for Lenovo.
“Last quarter, we achieved strong, sustainable, and accelerated growth, marking another period of revenue expansion across all business groups. This significant momentum is driven by our clear strategy, innovation investment, operational excellence, and global presence, as well as our commitment to hybrid AI, where we are further strengthening our market differentiation and industry leadership,” noted Lenovo chairman and CEO, Yuanqing Yang.
“As we look ahead, we are confident that our ongoing innovation advancements in hybrid AI will continue to accelerate growth and profitability, propelling us forward for the rest of the fiscal year,” he concluded.
