- Sparrow Schools is launching a robotics and coding programme.
- Vuma is getting involved by giving the institution a free 1Gbps fibre connection.
- The programme will help equip learners for a future that is increasingly showcasing a demand for technical accumen.
Schools have had the unenviable task of adapting to a world that is constantly pushing the boundaries of technology. As that forward march continues unabated, curriculums need to evolve to give learners the best shot at securing their future.
That translates into putting focus on education that revolves around concepts like robotics and coding. To that end, Sparrow Schools has announced the launch of a coding and robotics programme in partnership with Vuma.
Sparrow Schools opened 35 years ago and strives to remove the barriers to education disadvantaged learners face. By adding modern modules to its curriculum, learners are set to be empowered to pursue exciting prospects in the future.
“I am incredibly proud to be able to launch our IT and Robotics programme. It is a stunning idea that will open up a world of future opportunities for our students by teaching skills in robotics and coding,” CSI manager at Sparrow Schools, Renata Noble, said a statement.
“We have been fortunate to have incredible partners over the years, which has allowed us to achieve amazing things, such as launching our robotics programme. But what keeps me up at night is the uncertainty—wondering if those partners will still be there in the long run. It’s difficult to fully realise the potential of a programme when you can’t be sure of the funding for the next year,” the manager shared.
The school counts Nedbank, Lewis, FNB, Sage Foundation and Hollard among its partners and now Vuma joins the pack as well.
The fibre network operator will provide Sparrow Schools with a free 1Gbps connection with hopes that it will be used to grow the school’s ICT education efforts.
“This partnership is emblematic of how access to infrastructure and modern technology can unlock new opportunities in places where they were previously inaccessible. We are at the cusp of a new world and it’s important that we create these kinds of collaborations so that everyone can enjoy the benefits and opportunities that come with of technology. This partnership furthers that mission,” explains Taylor Kwong, head of marketing at Vuma.
