• Google has released a Gemini iPhone app.
• The iOS version of Google’s AI-powered chatbot made its debut on the Apple App Store surreptitiously this week.
• It makes the simple chat and interactive Gemini Live features available on iPhone.

Like several of its competitors, Google is looking to put its generative AI platform on as many devices as possible. To that end, the company surreptitiously added Google Gemini on the Apple App Store this week, but the app is available for iPhone only for now.

The free version of the app is laid out in a simple format, with a chat window present and awaiting input, as well as a list of previous chats available to users. In terms of interface, either text, voice, or camera inputs are accessible, with it being very similar if not identical to the iteration one would find for Android or the Chrome-based version of the platform.

As The Verge points out, while the features on the Gemini iPhone app are fairly straightforward, there is a relatively new addition to the platform in the form of Gemini Live.

Here iOS users will be able to experience a “natural sounding” conversational interaction with the chatbot, making to the chat mode in OpenAI’s ChatGPT. There interface for Gemini Live will appear in the Dynamic Island of iOS’ interface and the lock screen.

With Apple Intelligence yet to land on local iOS devices sans beta, it seems like Google has beaten Apple to the punch for now. How it will compare to the experience of Apple Intelligence, however, will be interesting to see.
