Black Friday kicks off in just a few hours, but for those shopping for LEGO, many stores already have their discounts live for you to shop right now.
We’ll go over each of the stores which have these sales live and the unique features of each which make them appealing.
For a more general advice for shopping for LEGO in South Africa – which covers things like loyalty points, free sets, unique offerings and more – see our definitive guide here. Also check back to Hypertext in the near year as we provide an updated version as the retail landscape for LEGO has changed drastically since the publication of our original guide.
As with all sales all year, we recommend shopping around before you hit buy on any and all items.
Amazon South Africa
After a very lacklustre “soft launch” earlier this year, Amazon South Africa seems to have come into its own in the lead up to Black Friday. Not only is this store selling LEGO at base prices which are lower than other stores, but it also seems to have the steepest discounts on top of this.
Amazon South Africa is also rather forthcoming with stock levels. The best sales will have a an indication of how many of a product are sold before the great price runs out. Take this LEGO Sorting Hat from Harry Potter for example. It’s 47 percent off right now and 86 percent of the available stock is sold, so if you want it you will need to act fast.
From our experience this stock level count is accurate so keep it in mind.
In terms of pure Rands and cents, Amazon South Africa has had the lowest prices on LEGO leading up to Black Friday. We’ll have to see if that remains the case on the actual day.

Great Yellow Brick
Great Yellow Brick is the online storefront for the Certified LEGO Stores in South Africa, which recently opened up its sixth physical store earlier this month.
Both the physical and online stores have been running a 30 percent off sale on a large amount of LEGO leading up to Black Friday.
It a newsletter we received it is also promised that more will be added to this sale with “double [loyalty] points, a new exclusive set launching and some free gifts! But wait, there will be so much more.”
We’ll have to wait to see what more is on offer but the flat 30 percent discount is already appreciated it. We have to imagine that the new exclusive set is The Endurance ship which already has a store page you can view here.
As mentioned in that newsletter, Great Yellow Brick is home to many exclusive sets which only it stocks, so for certain items this is a rare chance to get those exclusives for less. The Endurance is one of these sets which is only available here.

Takealot
Takealot has been running sales most of November with its early “Blue Dot” promotions but it’s only now, closer to the actual Black Friday, that we’re seeing the steepest deals. Takealot is also doubling up on sales by offering even lower prices to subscribers of their TakealotMORE service.
Takealot has also promised on social media that, at 21:00 on Black Friday (29th November), their toys will receive an extra R500. We’re not sure how this R500 saving will manifest so we will have to wait and see when it is rolled out tomorrow night.

Importatoy
Despite its name, Importatoy is a local company that is usually stocking LEGO at a lower price compared to everywhere else. Outside of sale seasons, if you need a LEGO set right now, more often than not Importatoy will have it for the lowest price.
For Black Friday it has been rotating sets in and out at very steep discounts that usually get snapped up fast, so check it out often to see what’s available.

BrickTopia
The recently-opened BrickTopia is a sister company to Importatoy. While both operations have have online stores, only BrickTopia has a physical store which you can visit in Boksburg.
It’s in this physical store that the biggest sales are happening with some offers we’ve seen close to half off.
For those who can’t travel to the physical store, the online sale (linked below) is still enticing with discounts up to 40 percent.
