Hypertext 2024 Gift Guides – Stocking stuffers

As we look to bring 2024 to an end, we also need to consider gifts for friends and loved ones this festive season. While large, expensive gifts usually go down a treat, size isn’t everything, and small gifts can also work a treat too.

It is with this in mind that we have curated a list of eight options, or stocking stuffers, that may be small but are big on value for money.

To be clear, not all are designed to fit inside a Christmas stocking, and our picks work equally well for the office Secret Santa.

As always, prices listed below are accurate at the time of writing but are subject to change by the retailer.

Bicycle playing cards – R60

You can kill countless hours with playing cards, and for those potentially wanting to unplug and not stare at air screens during the holidays, these are an affordable option.

Orbitkey key organiser – ~R1 169

When the New Year rolls around, people will likely be trying to keep to resolutions. If someone’s resolutions is to tidy up or be more organised, this elegant option from Orbitkey is well worth considering.

JBL Clip 5 portable speaker – R999

Portable speakers are always a good pick for Christmas. Even if you don’t plan on using this small JBL one for the beach or braais, its clip makes it easy to set up anywhere, including the shower.

KASE custom phone cover – From R299

A quick and easy way to give someone a highly personalised gift is a phone case. KASE in Rosebank is one of the better choices of companies which offer this service, and they offer cases for the most popular brands locally.

Magic 8 Ball – R285

This pick is purely for millennials who enjoy a bit of nostalgia or want to kit out their room with something slightly retro. Also Hypertext takes no responsibility for any important life choices you leave up to the Magic 8 Ball.

Apple AirTag – R749

Always handy, and a piece of tech we also chose for our travel gift guide, AirTags are perfect for keeping tabs on your luggage and other important items.

Google Nest speaker – R3 359

The largest and most expensive item on this list, if the person you’re buying a gift for is into smart homes, getting a Google Nest speaker is a wise choice. We’re also fans of the Sky Blue colourway option.

Safeway handheld fan – R219

You don’t need to tell South Africans that this Summer is a hot one. As such, being a bunch of these handheld fans would be great stocking stuffers. Charged via USB too, you don’t need to worry about batteries either to keep cool.
