Rocksteady calls it quits on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with final season, offline mode

  • Season 4 of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be the conclusion of the live service title.
  • Its big new addition is Deathstroke.
  • An offline mode releases today, freeing the game from its online shackles.

Welp, we have arrived. From endless rumours to horrifying leaks, from a disastrous launch in beginning of 2024 to the announcement of its end in the same year, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has reached its end.

The live service game has failed to draw in enough players to continue in perpetuity – the ultimate end goal of all live service titles – and developer Rocksteady Studios has started the beginning of the end in the form of Season 4 Episode 7 which released today, 10th December 2024.

“With Deathstroke joining the roster, the Suicide Squad’s crusade against Brainiac is drawing to an end. Season 4 will finish up with Episode 8, which is scheduled to release in January 2025, and that will serve as the last seasonal Episode for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While Season 4 Episode 8 will mark the final battle against Brainiac, all online features will continue to be available, so you’ll still be able to enjoy co-op with friends, as well as all previous seasonal/episodic content. You’ll also have the option to play the game via the new Offline mode, which allows access to the main story campaign and all post-launch seasonal gameplay content without an internet connection. For more details, visit our Season 4 FAQ,” reads the announcement.

Deathstroke is a new playable character in the game and he’s available now. Rocksteady refers to him as a “one-man-army” and gives him some backstory to explain his presence in the game. Outside of flavour text Deathstroke is broken down into three playstyles, these being Assassin, Mercenary and Strategist. Each of these focuses on different parts of the game.

Those who really love Deathstroke and want to start playing as him immediately will need to have some time in the game to do so. Braniac will need to be defeated after the completion of Mayhem Mission at Episode Rank 30. Hopefully there’s a decent amount of content available after that point so players can enjoy Deathstroke without replaying parts of the game, but then again almost everyone comes away from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League complaining about reptition, so maybe that’s par for the course.

The other reason to finally play this game is the new offline mode, which is also available now.

“We’ve talked before about an Offline mode coming to the game, and we’re pleased to make this option available as part of the Season 4 Episode 7 release on December 10. Offline mode will allow you to experience content released for the game, including the main story campaign and all seasonal story mission content, without an internet connection. To access Offline mode, you can either create a new profile by starting from the beginning of the game or create a copy of your existing Online profile, allowing you to jump in with all of your progress. All earned and purchased cosmetics will also be available in Offline mode. For more details, check out our Offline mode FAQ,” the announcement continues.

This has us much more excited than Deathstroke or anything else that could have been added to the game. We’re still probably going to wait for another 95 percent off sale to get it, but after that we’ll finally try it.

If we sound a bit flippant about this game and its end, it’s because we are. Like Marvel’s Avengers from the other side of the comic aisle, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League simply failed to give the gaming community what they wanted while trying to be yet another live service game that could continually rake in cash. Endless digital ink has been spilled about the development of this game and its failing but, as we get to the end of this story, it feels a bit pointless to go over again. This is just another game that didn’t pan out and we’re at least happy that Rocksteady stuck with it in some manner for around a year before pulling the plug and leaving the world with an offline mode.

We could have easily seen online requirements sticking around and an eventual server closure that would have made the game unplayable.
