• Spotify Wrapped 2024 is upon us, and one of the new additions to the yearly music recap is an AI-powered podcast.
• Leveraging the technology of Google’s NotebookLM, it creates two AI-powered hosts who dive into the music you listened to in 2024.
• Unfortunately, however, this feature is limited to selected regions, which excludes South Africa.

It is that time of the year again when Spotify releases its Wrapped music streaming roundup for free and premium users, recapping what they listened to throughout 2024, as well as what some of the music trends where over the past 12 months. For Spotify Wrapped 2024, one of the additions is AI-powered in the form of a podcast.

To that end, it creates two AI-generated “hosts” who will then run through some of your listening habits for the year as a way to showcase some of the more unique and tailored experiences that the music streaming platform is capable of.

Spotify leaned on Google’s NotebookLM in order to do so, but before you go checking your Wrapped 2024, which is currently accessible in the app, this feature is limited to a small number of countries only.

“With this personalized Audio Overview, delivered by two dynamic hosts using generative AI, fans can dive deeper into their top songs, artists, and genres of the year. This feature will be available in English for eligible Free and Premium users for a limited time across the U.S., the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden,” Spotify explained in a blog post.

Other AI-powered features that Spotify subscribers in South Africa experience though include the AI DJ, as well as the AI Playlist, both of which have been released in 2024 and 2023 respectively on the platform.

Some of the other experiences earmarked for Wrapped 2024 include your “music evolution” and how your listening tastes and moods changed throughout the year.

Added to this is audio clips from top artists and podcasters, should they feature in your Wrapped, as well as some of the usual elements that appear in the annual roundup such as Top Listeners and curated playlists from Spotify editors highlighting some of the larger music trends or events from 2024.

With Spotify Wrapped having evolved rapidly in recent years, it is clear that 2024 is a time when Spotify leaned into AI, and we should see more of this type of content on the platform moving forward.

“Think of 2024 Spotify Wrapped as a celebration of the fans, artists, and creators who made this such an amazing year. We’re giving fans even more ways to indulge in what they love, from showing them how their taste in music evolved throughout the year to special messages from their favorite artists and podcasters,” the platform added.
