Many South Africans are calling it time on 2024 today and if you’re one of those people and a PC gamer, your December will be a bit more filled with gaming.
The Steam Winter Sale is now on until 2nd January 2025 giving you ample time to browse the broad selection of discounts. The sale coincides with voting for the annual Steam Awards and Steam Replay.
On the awards, gamers can vote on games they nominated to win in each of the 11 categories. The 2024 categories include Labour of Love Award, Best Game You Suck At Award and of course a Game of the Year Award.
On the Game of the Year Award, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, Helldivers 2. Space Marine 2, Balatro and Black Myth Wukong are nominated. You can cast your vote and earn stickers here.
Steam Replay is similar to Spotify Wrapped but for games. This feature will tell you which games you spent your time in this year and even which interface you used most often. Thanks to several PlayStation releases on PC, we spent a fair amount of time with a controller hooked up to our PC.

We recommend browsing the Under R100 section of the sale, especially if you want to fill out your Steam library. There are plenty of older AAA games that still hold up that you can pick up for a steal during this sale so take advantage if you’ve never played the likes of Mass Effect to see what all the hype is about.
We’d be fools for not mentioning that Epic Games is giving away games throughout the festive season via the Epic Games Store. As of time of writing on Friday morning, Vampire Survivors can be claimed for free. The store is also hosting a sale until 9th January but Steam beats those deals by a decent margin or the prices match.
Valve is also heavily advertising Steam Gift Cards for sale. These can purchased in denominations of R60, R120, R300, R600, and R1 200. You can also purchase physical Steam Gift Cards at retailers including HiFi Corp, and Incredible.
