- Threads will suggest groups of accounts to follow based on a user’s interests.
- These groups can be followed when signing up for Threads or from the For You timeline.
- This feature comes after the platform rolled out Customised Feeds, emulating Bluesky which is seeing a surge in popularity.
Facing pressure from a surge in signups to Bluesky, Threads has been rapidly testing and deploying user-friendly features.
The Meta version of Twitter recently rolled out Customised Feeds that allow users to craft their own timeline rather than being confined to the algorithmic For You feed or a timeline of accounts you follow. Now, Threads is testing a feature that will make it easier to populate your timeline.
“Testing a way for you to find and easily follow collections of profiles that post about popular topics on Threads. These will be suggested when signing up for Threads and within the For You feed. Shoutout to the handful of Threads community leaders who curated and shared these collections. Keep an eye out for more updates, coming soon,” Instagram head Adam Mosseri posted.

It looks as if Threads will curate groups of accounts to recommend to users. From the image, it looks like all of these accounts are verified which is good from a safety perspective but not a discoverability perspective for creators. We would love for Threads to make this a user-centric feature where, like on Bluesky, users can curate lists and share them with others.
While Twitter, now X, has had lists for as long as we can remember, the implementation of the feature always felt clunky to us, forcing us off of the main page to another part of the website. We far prefer Bluesky’s implementation where users can just scroll through different feeds and lists of users.
The good news is that, as we mentioned, Threads is developing and shipping improvements at speed of late. The platform welcomed 35 million new users in November according to Engadget. Meanwhile, Bluesky welcomed 20 million new users and signups just keep climbing up. There are currently 25 million Bluesky users while Threads has 275 million thanks largely to its ties to Instagram.
