- The Unreal / Unreal Tournament franchise is the source of cosmetics in two games.
- Warframe gets free weapon skins.
- Fortnite will receive a bundle of different cosmetics.
Fans of the Unreal Tournament franchise may find today’s news bittersweet as the series is back in a limited capacity as a series of cosmetics for other games.
The first of these is Warframe which has a batch of three weapon cosmetics that are completely free to own. The Unreal Tournament Rocket Launcher, Flak Cannon and Shock Rifle are all available to Warframe players in just a few hours from now at the time of writing.
“Log in to Claim: Starting December 9 at 2 p.m. ET, log in to claim your Unreal Tournament skins until December 23. Missed the Login Reward? Don’t worry! After December 23, these skins will move to the in-game market as a 1 Credit bundle — yours to keep forever!” reads the announcement.
These weapon skins aren’t new additions to Warframe as they were made available back in 2020. This is another chance for players to grab the items for free if they missed it the first time.
For those wondering why Warframe has brought the cosmetics back, it may have to do with Fortnite. The official Twitter / X account for the game recently shared a teaser showing off Garog and Samael skins messing around with Jonesy and Peely inside of the game.
This teaser comes with the date of 10th December 2024, which is today. No full announcement of this crossover has been made yet, but it’s very early morning in America right now, so we expect more details later today. Right now Fortnite is down for maintenance and an update, so Unreal Tournament may already be in the game by the time the servers are back up.
We can, however, find out more information from the slew of Fortnite leakers. One of them is reporting that the Unreal Tournament bundle in Fortnite will cost 2 200 V-Bucks and contain skins for the aforementioned Garog and Samael as well as a a pickaxe and wrap. The bundle’s contents will also be available as separate purchases.
As a reminder: Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, also created Unreal Tournament (along with Warframe maker Digital Extremes). We have to wonder if this push for the property is simply to sell cosmetics inside of Fortnite, or if the company has a bigger announcement planned and this is all part of marketing.
We’re on the side of doubting that. Fortnite continues to grow and rake in billions of Dollars, so there’s little incentive to focus on much else. We’d love to be proven wrong so let’s wait and see if anything else happens.
Can you keep a Secret? 🤐
