CES 2025 is currently underway, and for PC and laptop enthusiasts it means some new hardware to fawn over. In the case of ASUS, it has unveiled a number of new additions to its ever-growing Republic of Gamers (ROG) gaming laptops.
For South African fans of the company’s gaming-focused sub-brand, the wait for new hardware will not be long, as ASUS has already earmarked three new devices that will be headed to our shores.
These are the ROG Flow Z13, ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2025), and the ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025).
“2025 heralds new silicon across the entire ROG laptop lineup. From Intel Core Ultra, to AMD Ryzen, and the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series Laptop GPUs announced at CES 2025,, the ROG lineup stands ready to provide gamers and content creators with the next level of performance,” explained ASUS in a release shared with Hypertext.
To that end, the 2025 ROG Strix lineup features new chassis designs for the Intel-based Strix SCAR 16 and Strix SCAR 18, as well as full-surround RGB lighting and the first tool-less bottom panel available in a gaming laptop.
“With a single button press, users can easily open their machine to clean fans or upgrade RAM and storage, no ribbon cables or screws required. All 2025 Strix machines also feature a dual-layer ACR film on the display, which reduces reflections by 55% and boosts contrast by 4.5X, giving gamers more vivid colors and making it easier to see enemies than ever before,” added ASUS.
There are also AMD-powered flavours for the 2025 Strix lineup.
Here, ASUS says the, “Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 275HX is available on both the top-end Strix SCAR machines as well as the Strix G16 and G18, while the AMD-equipped Strix G16 and Strix G18 feature the latest AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D (Strix G16) or Ryzen 9 9955HX (Strix G18) processors.”
“No matter which variant gamers choose, world-class gaming performance and multi-tasking potential await. Supported by up to 64GB of DDR5 5600MHz RAM and 4TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage on the Strix SCAR 16 and 18, and 32GB of DDR5 5600MHz RAM and 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage on the Strix G16 and G18, these machines are the perfect match for gamers and content creators who demand a next-level experience,” the company boasted.
Switching to the Flow Z13, it will be powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, which features RDNA 3.5 graphics cores that ASUS says is comparable to the gaming performance on par with Radeon 8060S graphics. A dedicated NPU also makes the Flow Z13 a capable AI PC, according to its manufacturer, with up to 50 TOPS of total NPU compute power.
“To fit all this power in such a compact chassis, the Flow Z13 features premium power-delivery components, including 14 power phases and Japanese capacitors. The Flow Z13’s processor utilizes a unified quad-channel memory design, allowing the entire device to share the same pool of up to 128GB of ultra-high-speed LPDDR5X-8000 RAM between both the CPU and GPU cores completely dynamically,” ASUS highlighted.
“The 2025 Flow Z13 features a brand-new vapor chamber, now built with a combination of stainless steel and copper and offering 54% more coverage of the mainboard compared to the previous generation design,” it continued.
As for the aforementioned availability and pricing, the Flow Z13 is expected locally in February starting from R42 999 (RRP).
The beefier Strix SCAR 18 is slated for arrival in Mid-March and will retail in the region of between R84 999 and R93 999 (RRP), while the Strix SCAR 16 is also set to debut in March, although no recommended retail price has been shared at the time of writing.
