Cyberpunk 2077 hits review milestone alongside Patch 2.21

  • Cyberpunk 2077 has finally reached the “Overwhelmingly Positive” review status on Steam.
  • This comes after years of post-launch improvements on the game.
  • This milestone coincides with Patch 2.21.

When we reviewed Cyberpunk 2077 at launch in 2020 we called it “the roughest diamond out there” because there was an amazing game hidden under countless problems during release. Thankfully CD Projekt Red was up to the task of polishing that diamond because, years later and after seemingly endless updates from the company, Steam reviews have hit the highest possible level.

At the time of writing the recent review of Cyberpunk 2077 are classified as “Overwhelmingly Positive” with 95 percent of the most recent 12 603 reviews being positive.

This was pointed out by those who worked on the game, namely Paweł Sasko on Twitter / X. The associate game director wrote:

“Never dreamt it will be possible 🥺 Over 4 years after the release #Cyberpunk2077 hit Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam 😭 So thankful for your passion, memes, videos, reviews, articles, fan art, cosplay and mods. Much love my chooms! 😭”

Another person who worked on Cyberpunk 2077 as a Quest Designer, Philipp Weber, replied to Sasko’s post:

“Cyberpunk was a labor of love, and that love was cut short. After all this time, I’m so happy we got the chance to fulfill our vision in the end, and I’m so thankful for the team who supports it to this day, as well as the fans who never gave up on it. Takemura would be proud!” Weber wrote.

The “all reviews” section of Cyberpunk 2077 is slightly less glowing sitting with the “Very Positive” rating. Of the 715 464 reviews in total, 84 percent of them are positive. We have to imagine that there are still many negative reviews from the game’s early days before all its updates.

We have to wonder if, over time, even the “all reviews” section will shift over to Overwhelmingly Positive. For its part, CD Projekt Red is working for it as more updates come out for the game, with the most recent being today’s Patch 2.21.

PC enthusiasts / senselessly rich people moving to the RTX 50 Series GPUs will be happy to see that the updated deep learning super sampling (DLSS) arrives with this update. RTX 40 Series owners will also receive a boost here.

“Added support for DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards, which boosts FPS by using AI to generate up to three times per traditionally rendered frame – enabled with GeForce RTX 50 Series on January 30th. DLSS 4 also introduces faster single Frame Generation with reduced memory usage for RTX 50 and 40 Series. Additionally, you can now choose between the CNN model or the new Transformer model for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA on all GeForce RTX graphics cards today. The new Transformer model enhances stability, lighting, and detail in motion,” the patch notes read.

The patch notes can be read in full here with further fixes arriving for both console and PC players.
