DStv Compact price dropped in latest streaming deal

  • A newly advertised deal from MultiChoice sees you paying less for DStv Compact without having to get a decoder.
  • Customers can now pay R299 per month for the DStv Compact bouquet exclusively through streaming, but for a 12-month contract.
  • This is the latest attempt from MultiChoice to capitalise on the streaming craze and recoup some of its losses.

In order to capitalise on the gains streaming has been making in recent years, MultiChoice is advertising a new deal for its DStv Compact Stream product, dropping the price by R100 for a 12-month contract at R299 per month. It is R399 on a month-to-month basis.

The South African entertainment giant has been advertising the deal on social media with the below graphic.

The deal also allows potential customers access to the DStv Stream app through the Compact bouquet, when previously the option only existed with an added decoder for around R469 per month. Now for R299 per month you gain access to streaming DStv contact on any device, including mobile streams for family members.

Compact offers the “Best of local entertainment + reality TV” and a discount on an added Showmax subscription at 45 percent off.

MultiChoice hiked the prices for all of its DStv products early last year, with the biggest increase marked for DStv access, which is the most entry level package. Meanwhile DStv Compact was increased to R469 per month.

This includes the option with the decoder, which is no longer the only Compact option available with the recent inclusion of the DStv Compact Stream package and the lowered price. While the Compact for just DStv Stream deal is cheaper, it also comes with a 12-month contract, meaning MultiChoice will have you locked down for longer.

It is likely that the company will continue offering more affordable deals, especially geared towards streaming options as it tries to turn its financial troubles around. The company lost R4.1 billion and 1.6 million subscribers in the last financial year.

At the time it blamed the cost of living crisis making subscribers rethink their monthly investments into the satellite TV company.

MultiChoice also relaunched Showmax last year, updating the streaming platform both in content and in user interface thanks to a partnership with American firm NBCUniversal.
