Galaxy Ring will launch in South Africa very soon

  • The Galaxy Ring is officially heading to South Africa.
  • The wearable is expected to launch in March, with Samsung bringing all colour and size options to SA.
  • Consumers will have to size the Galaxy Ring in-store before ordering or purchasing.

As we reach the one year mark since Samsung surprised everyone at Unpacked with a teaser for a new wearable – the Galaxy Ring – South African consumers will soon officially be able to purchase the device locally.

In preparation for the Galaxy S25 series launch, we spoke with a local contact familiar with Samsung SA’s wearable plans, who confirmed that the Galaxy Ring is indeed slated for a launch in South Africa, with it currently scheduled to debut in March.

This aligns with Samsung’s previous communication on the new wearable, in that it would likely head to SA in 2025 along with more regions as the company tested the waters in a handful of markets last year.

Our source was not able to share a more specific date in March, but did confirm that recommended pricing will be around the R8k mark for the Galaxy Ring, although a lot can happen between now and March.

“Samsung will have the colour range, it will have the sizing range,” they explained to Hypertext. This therefore means the it will be available in SA in Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold (all seen above).

“There’s been a lot of buzz around it, with good and bad, but I think the (smart) ring technology is pretty great. Where Samsung aims for it to be is a device to handle the handover from your smartwatch when you go to bed at night,” they posited in terms of how local consumers would make use of it.

The nine different size options of the Galaxy Ring that consumers will try on in-store.

Explaining how the sizing would work, they said that kits would be available in-store (as seen above) with the different sizes. They added that for the best results and accurate tracking of metrics, Samsung advised that it be fitted to a user’s index finger.

These kits will not only be made available at Samsung branded stores, but the company will make also it accessible in the stores of partners too. “Samsung will be working with Vodacom and the like,” they noted. “Not every store, as it is a unique product, but certainly in places like Incredible Connection,” our contact continued.

It will be interesting to see what the local uptake for this new wearable will be like, and whether it will indeed be a potential alternative for smartwatches that South Africans gravitate towards.
