- Samsung revealed four new flagship devices as part of the Galaxy S25 series at its Unpacked event this evening.
- The new addition to the lineup is a “Slim” model, but no word on whether it will be launched in SA.
- All three of the new Galaxy S25 smartphones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
This evening Samsung hosted its first Unpacked event of the year, where the company showcased its latest lineup of flagship smartphones – the Galaxy S25 series.
A new addition has been added to the mix for 2025 in the form of a “Slim” model, but the regular, Plus (+), and Ultra models are also present.
At the time of writing, it remains to be seen if the Slim will be making its way to South Africa, but Samsung have confirmed that the three other offerings are indeed landing on our shores.
So what are some of the key new elements in the Galaxy S25 series?
All three devices are powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which the silicon maker debuted late last year. Samsung notes that these particular processors have been purpose built for it, although it is not abundantly clear what differentiates them from versions found in other OEMs’ handsets.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite has been christened the “fastest chipset in the world”, but much of the speed on offer here geared towards powering more on-device AI experiences.
To that end, the S25 series features the next evolution of Samsung’s Galaxy AI, along with sporting One UI 7, which has been redesigned from the ground up to make the AI experience and functionality more seamless, according to Samsung.
Speaking of which, the South Korean outfit says the multi-modal capabilities on offer make the S25 series better at understanding and acting upon natural language instructions, queries, and requests, with Google Gemini powering much of the experience.
Enhancements have also been made to the performance of Galaxy AI features like Circle to Search and Photo/Video editing.
In terms of pricing and availability, Samsung Mobile SA is wasting little time in getting devices into the hands of local consumers. This as pre-orders go live this evening already for all three models of Galaxy S25, with pricing starting at R20 999 (RRP) for the regular iteration and R30 999 (RRP) for the high-specced Ultra flavour.
