How to check your 2024 Matric Exam Results online

After a grueling month of matric exams, nearly a million young people will be enjoying a well-deserved break before embarking on their out of school futures, whether it be work, tertiary education or self discovery.

“This is the beginning of the rest of your life,” said Department of Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube at the onset of the exams in October.

“What you put into these exams is exactly what you will be able to reap at the end of it. This is the first time as a young adult that you get to shape your future.”

How to find your 2024 Matric Exams results online

According to the department, the 2024 matric results will be released on 14th January 2025 with Minister Siviwe Gwarube announcing the outcome of the examinations on the 13th.

Candidates should note that “some results may not be available because of technical issues,” it says.

On the 14th, you should check your local newspaper for the most immediate results of whether you passed or failed and how many distinctions you earned. You will have to use your exam number to find your results in the newspaper.

If you don’t feel like going to grab the morning paper then the first place you should check on 14th January is the official Department of Basic Education website, where you will be able to look up the 2024 Senior Certificate (SC) Exam Results on a quick link on the bottom right of the site.

Results will be available on the website from 6 AM. Queries on results must be submitted within 30 days after release.

You will have to input your exam number in order to receive your results so make sure that this number is handy when you go look.

IEB learners can find a similar portal on the IEB Schools website. You will have to log in using your exam number and date of birth.

Finally, you can download the MatricsMate app. The app can be downloaded via the App Store for iOS and the Google Play Store for Android. On it, you will find an option to get your matric results.

You will need to input your exam number again here, after the 14th, to get your personal results.

How to apply for a remark

If you are not happy with your results, you can apply for a remark for each individual exam subject you wrote during the end-year examinations. However you will have to pay a fee for each subject that is being remarked.

You can apply for a remark any time before 31st January 2025, and you can do so here.

  • Re-mark : R116.
  • Re-check : R29.

“Results of remarking will be released from 14 March 2025 and will be available at the school/exam centre where the candidate sat for their 2024 examinations,” the DBE remarks.

Supplementary examinations, for those students that want to rewrite exams without having to repeat the year will take place in June 2025. Learners must apply before 7th February 2025.
