Monsterverse cosmetics, limited-time mode and Skyline come to Fortnite

  • Monsterverse cosmetics are available to earn or to buy in Fortnite.
  • The Titan Takedown mode allows players to become a giant Godzilla.
  • Cosmetics for the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) are also available.

Earlier this week it was finally revealed that the Monsterverse Godzilla and Mothra would appear in Fortnite as unlockable cosmetics inside of the paid Battle Pass. It was rumoured that more Monsterverse content would come to the game, and we finally have those details now too.

Firstly there’s King Kong (or just “Kong” as he’s officially called in the Monsterverse) and Mechagodzilla cosmetics which are now available to buy in the in-game Fortnite Item Shop. The pair are joined by new pickaxes, wraps and emotes with everything packed into a single bundle costing 2 800 V-Bucks. Individual pieces of the bundle can also be bought separately.

These items will be available until 25th January 2025 so, as always, you need to buy these Fortnite cosmetics sooner rather than later.

More exciting than simply looking like kaiju from the Monsterverse is playing as them, which will be possible thanks to the new Titan Takedown mode.

“Starting January 17, there’s a special chance that a portal will appear on the Battle Royale map. The first player to find and jump through it will emerge as the colossal titan, Godzilla! As Godzilla, you can reveal nearby players with Roar, send them flying with a Mighty Stomp Attack, and lay waste to other players and structures with Heat Ray,” the announcement reads.

“Only one player can become Godzilla when the portal spawns in a Battle Royale match. It’s up to other players to take them down! Aim for Godzilla’s weak spots to deal extra damage and knock off Godzilla’s Fragments, which you can consume to gain 40 Health and 3 dash charges. Pick up the unvaulted Rail Gun for extra firepower in the fight, and use the Shield Bubble for cover!”

This kind of limited time, crossover powerup has been done several times in Fortnite before. Arguably the most famous was the Infinity Gauntlet, which players could pick up to become Thanos many years ago.

While a fun addition to the game, we would have much preferred that Titan Takedown was a separate mode outside of the Battle Royale that we could play at any time. It would be fun to load into a lobby where the main focus is a titanic Godzilla fight instead of this simply being an addition to all the other chaos going on in a given Battle Royale map.

We’ll give Titan Takedown a fair chance after work this weekend and report back on Monday.

The last part of the Monsterverse crossover involves the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32). Car fans already see the humour here as this car has long had the nickname of “Godzilla” given its Japanese heritage and immense power that can be unlocked through modification.

“Including the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) Car Body, wrap this (questionably) street-legal Skyline with either the Godzilla, Kong, Godzilla Evolved, or Mechagodzilla animated Decal. You can equip Titan treads by way of the Godzilla Wheels, go on a Godzilla-fighting road trip with the Monarch Tech Wheels, or cruise the classic way with the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) Wheels,’ the announcement continues.

The aforementioned animated decals are only usable with the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32), so keep that in mind should you purchase these cosmetics.

Like the Kong and Mechagodzilla items, these car-focused cosmetics are also available in the Fortnite Item Shop right now. Most of them are included in a single bundle for 2 800 V-Bucks, but the Heat Ray Boost is, for some reason, not included and needs to be purchased separately for a further 400 V-Bucks.
