• Showmax has announced that it will live stream Tyla’s concert taking place in Pretoria at the SunBet Arena.
• The concert is scheduled for 18th January and 21:00 CAT and be streamed in 44 countries via Showmax.
• It will be the first time that an African streaming platform will livestream a local concert across the continent.

If you’re a fan of South African artist Tyla, you are likely aware that she has a concert taking place next week on 18th January at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa.

For those who could not secure tickets for the concert, Showmax has an announcement that will of interest, as the streaming platform has confirmed that it will live stream the concert on 18th January at 21:00 CAT.

The live stream will be made available to Showmax subscribers across 44 African countries, with the platform also noting that it is the first time that an African streamer will live stream a local concert across the continent.

With Netflix having recently dabbled, and failed to some extent, in live streaming events like the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight, it will be interesting to see how Showmax pulls it off without any issues.

“With our advanced live-streaming technology, we’re thrilled to spotlight Tyla’s iconic homecoming concert. This marks our first live-streamed entertainment event, underscoring our commitment to making world-class experiences accessible across the continent,” shared Yatish Narsi, CMO at Showmax and MultiChoice South Africa in a release to Hypertext.

“We’re not just hoping to smash records with this live stream. We’re changing the narrative of what it means to succeed on our continent. Showmax doesn’t just aim to be the best in Africa; we aim to take our place among the best in the world,” he added.

Should the live stream be successful, we could more local and African events being live stream via Showmax in future.

For now though, the upcoming Tyla concert will serve as a test of the platform’s capabilities, and it is expected to garner some solid numbers. This as Tyla has had an impressive couple of years, racking up an estimated 1.6 billion streams of her music to date, as well as being the youngest ever African to win a Grammy.
