- The original Sims and The Sims 2 are set to be re-released this week as part of the series’ 25th Anniversary.
- The games are reportedly going to see a remaster to bring them in live with modern hardware.
- A final big reveal is expected at the end of the celebrations.
New reports and a bunch of cryptic hints from EA indicate that the two most critically acclaimed games in The Sims series – The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 – are set for a re-release after the publisher made both games impossible to purchase for at least a decade.
Kotaku is reporting, per an inside source in EA, that The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are set to be re-released on PC at the end of the month, and hints from official pages on social media seem to support the reports.

In a roadmap post highlighting upcoming releases for 25th Anniversary of the Maxis game, the period between 27th and 31st January is slated as “Nostalgia Now.” What’s more, a different animation from The Sims on X titled “BRB” hints at “Time Travel” and shows the iconic Sims green diamond in the original style of the first game and then the style of the second.
Kotaku adds that both games will be re-released with all their original expansions, which means seven packs for The Sims, and whopping 18 pieces of additional content for The Sims 2.
The only way players have been managing to get the first two games to play are through original disc versions or the other unscrupulous means. However, this also means that a number of unofficial patches and mods need to be installed to get the classic games to run on modern systems.
It is expected that the re-release versions of the games will be remastered in some way, or at least be made compatible with modern hardware through some quality of life changes. What is not known is whether or not EA will make the games free-to-play or add a price tag to them.
The Sims 1 is a 25 year old game, so we’re not sure how much it will retail for nowadays, but if its been remastered from the top down, EA can essentially do a Blizzard and charge whatever they like.
As for the second game, EA released the Ultimate Edition completely free of charge over a short period ahead of the game being pulled from all storefronts worldwide in 2018 on the soon to be defunct Origin platform.
Finally, the teaser from EA ends in something hidden on 25th February 2025. We doubt this will be a fifth edition of the game as the current model is to bring out as many DLCs as possible for the latest installment. Perhaps it could be related to the so-called ‘Project Renee’ that EA has been working on.
