- Apple is highly expected to debut a new affordable smartphone on Wednesday at a launch event.
- CEO Tim Cook said the event will welcome “the newest member of the family.”
- More new Apple devices could also be revealed this week.
As the first major product launch for tech giant Apple in 2025 looms, we wanted to provide a run-down of all the expected devices that could see the light of day come this Wednesday 19th February. The one that is most likely to see its covers pulled this week is the latest version of the iPhone SE, Apple’s budget smartphone lineup.
We have been expecting the debut of this smartphone for some time, but Apple has seen fit to push back its launch for a larger reveal event.
It is believed that the new iPhone SE will feature an Apple-manufactured 5G modem as well as an “A18 chipset and 8GB of RAM as found on the base model iPhone 16, as well as the iPhone 15’s 48MP rear and 12MP selfie cameras,” per Bloomberg.
Apple is slated to launch a bunch of other products in the first half of the year, so it is likely that more than just one device will be launched on the 19th February event.
The slew of releases for the first half of 2025 also “includes a MacBook Air with an M4 chip and upgrades to its low-end and iPad Air models. It’s also working on its first smart home hub with a display for this year, in addition to a new AirTag tracking device and upgraded pro-level desktop computers,” according to Bloomberg.
Could we see an new M4 MacBook Air at the launch event this week? We think maybe not, as Apple usually likes to reserve an entire event just for such a product. Especially as CEO Tim Cook teased the launch will show-off “the newest member of the family.” But we have been wrong before.
Though the new low-end iPad and iPad Air with the A17 Pro chip? That’s more likely, especially if the hero of the event is the more affordable iPhone with the homemade internet modem. Users definitely shouldn’t expect the new AirTags though – the AirTag 2 – to be revealed as this one is reportedly internally slated for “mid 2025.”
The smart home hub – reportedly called “HomePad” – will also likely not see the light of day this week. This particular gadget is aimed at a March debut, or maybe even later, per the dudes at 9to5Mac.
Aside from this, Apple is also poised to announced new collaboration with audio giants Beats for a new PowerBeats Pro set of earbuds.
Hypertext will have all the coverage of what Apple launches on Wednesday, and more importantly, when these devices will arrive in South Africa.
