McDonald’s rolls out Sweetie Pie dessert for R80

  • McDonald’s has added the “Sweetie Pie Bliss” to its menu.
  • Customers will need to fork out R79.90 for the item.
  • The cost includes a “keepsake cup”.

The Sweetie Pie chocolate marshmallow is a staple of South African culture and now you can enjoy it in a new and unique way as the local arm of McDonald’s has introduced a new item to its menu in the form of the Sweetie Pie Bliss.

“Be one of the first to try the limited Sweetie Pie Bliss! A limited-time exclusive offer served in an exclusive keepsake cup,” reads the description of the item inside of the McDonald’s app.

“A treat made with our creamy ice cream topped with a Sweetie Pie made with fresh whipped crème delicately placed on a wafer biscuit and covered with delicious milk chocolate double topped with extra wafers and chocolate sauce. The perfect way to spoil yourself during the month of love,” it adds.

The focus on Valentine’s Day and the non-disposable cup help make up for the rather high price of the item, coming in at R79.90. If you compare it to the last limited-time dessert item, the in/famous Grimace Shake, that only cost R42.90.

The cup, which you can see in the header image above, seems to be a plastic see-through item with red wrapping and hearts around it. We’ll have to see if this is printed onto the plastic or if this is just a sleeve.

Depending on if the McDonald’s ice cream machines are working this weekend, we’ll venture out to our local branch and try the Sweetie Pie Bliss and report back on its taste, the quality of the cup, and if it’s worth ten cents short of R80.

We did the same test with the aforementioned Grimace Shake and found it lacking, but worth trying at least once to say you did. As the Sweetie Pie Bliss is noticeably more expensive, we’re not sure if we will come to the same conclusion.
