• Volkswagen Group Africa has detailed the impending arrival of its new Golf 1.4.
• There are four different models that will be made available locally.
• The top of the range offering is the TSI 110kW Tiptronic R-line + .

Volkswagen has a new Golf headed to South Africa this quarter. Specifically the latest Golf 1.4, which is strictly the Golf 8.5 as a refresh for the previous model sold in SA.

Reports of the vehicle’s arrival surfaced in the latter half of last year, but Volkswagen Group Africa has confirmed that it will be launched locally during the first quarter of 2025.

A more definitive date was not shared, but VW has revealed the recommended pricing for the four different models that will be sold in South Africa. The models are – the Life, Life +, R-Line and R-Line + equipment lines – with each featuring the same 1.4 litre 110kW engine under the bonnet. This engine is paired with an 8-speed tiptronic transmission.

Along with the engine, VW is talking up the front of the vehicle, which has a distinct design and some specific light elements.

“The new Golf can be recognised by its new front end. Visually defining features include the Volkswagen logo, which is illuminated for the first time on the Golf, and the newly designed LED headlights. The top-of-the-range IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights incorporate a new high-performance main beam with a range of up to 500m,” it explained in a release shared with Hypertext.

In terms of the different models, the Life features Eco LED headlights, wireless app connect, cruise control, 12.9″ infotainment radio, six-speaker audio system, 10-colour ambient lighting dashboard, and a 10″ integrated digital cockpit.

As for the Life +, it features driver profile selection, rear view camera, 30-colour ambient lighting, and the Art-velours sports comfort seats package.

Shifting to the two R offerings, the R-line has multi-function heated steering wheel with shifting paddles, progressive steering with sports suspension, keyless entry, R-Line seat trim covers and body covered bumpers, and 17″ coventry alloy wheels.

Lastly, the R-line + has IQ matrix LED headlights with illuminated VW front logo, vienna leather seats with R-Line logo, padels in brushed stainless steel, and 18″ leeds alloy wheels.
