- OPPO South Africa has confirmed the company’s latest foldable device, the Find N5, is not launching locally.
- The foldable is expected to be officially unveiled in two weeks as a foldable for global markets.
- It is also said to be the thinnest foldable on the market, unfolding to ~4mm thin.
Last month we wrote about a series of Weibo posts detailing an upcoming device from OPPO in the form of the Find N5. The device is notable as it is said to be the OPPO’s thinnest foldable to date, along with the company noting that it will be the thinnest foldable on the market when it officially launches.
A precise measurement has not been shared yet by OPPO, but the Find N5 is believed to be ~4mm when unfolded, with images showing that it is only marginally thicker than the USB Type-C port used to charge it.
As such, it will no doubt prove a feat of engineering, and in two weeks, OPPO’s thinnest foldable will be showcased to the world.

In a promotional video posted on Weibo, OPPO says the new device will officially be unveiled in two weeks. As the post was published on 5th February, we’re anticipating the launch to happen on 19th February.
If you are keen to see OPPO’s thinnest foldable to date in-person locally, however, you are out of luck, as we reached out to OPPO South Africa for word on the upcoming device. Unfortunately the answer is not what we were hoping for.
“The OPPO Find N5 will not be launched in South Africa. However, we are always exploring new ways to bring cutting-edge technology to the market and look forward to introducing more exciting products soon,” a reply to Hypertext’s query explained.
The first, and last currently, foldable that OPPO launched locally was the Find N2 in 2023. While we’re not even two years since said launch, it already feels like OPPO is lagging behind the likes of Samsung, Huawei and HONOR when it comes to the South African foldable market.
While foldable devices is not the company bread and butter, having the latest flagship models in country goes a long way to enhancing the brand’s presence.
Hopefully OPPO decides to change its mind on the local launch of the Find N5, especially if there is a strong positive reaction to its unveiling in two weeks’ time.
For now, however, South African consumers will need to look elsewhere to get their foldable fix in 2025.
