- Apple CEO Tim Cook posted on X that the company’s next device will be revealed on 19th February.
- Many believe the device in question to be the new iPhone SE.
- This particular iPhone is notable as it is expected to feature an in-house 5G modem, which would be a first for Apple.
Earlier this week we reported on Apple being set to reveal two new devices – the next iteration iPhone SE and a pair of PowerBeats Pro earphones. As it turns out, our reporting was only half correct, as the PowerBeats Pro 2 has seen the light of day, but no word yet on the other Apple device.
That was the case until a few hours ago, when Apple CEO Tim Cook took to his X account to share some news of an upcoming reveal. More specifically that the Cupertino-based company will unveil its latest offering on 19th February.
“Get ready to meet the newest member of the family,” he posted, without sharing any more information.
Well the slightly cryptic nature of the post has people trying to guess what the new Apple device in question will be, with some even going so far as to state a refreshed Vision Pro headset could be on the way, the more likely option is the new iPhone SE that Apple has been working on.
We say this as Apple’s official events page makes no mention of the 19th February reveal at the time of writing, which means we probably won’t be getting a launch at the company’s Infinity Loop campus where all of its biggest live streamed launches happen.
Added to this is the fact that iPhone SE reveals have always been more subdued than the numbered series, and usually amount to an announcement appearing in the company’s global newsroom.
That is not to say that the new iPhone SE is not noteworthy, with it garnering attention up until now for the hardware it is holding internally. Namely a reportedly in-house 5G modem, which would be a first for the company if true, and would continue Apple’s recent moves to bring more production of silicon and other internal components under its own roof.
In terms of what else the new iPhone SE is sporting, an A18 chipset and 8GB of RAM as found on the base model iPhone 16 is rumoured, as well as the iPhone 15’s 48MP rear and 12MP selfie cameras. As for the display, it is said to be a 6.1″ OLED variant (2532×1170) as found on the iPhone 14, with the physical home button being removed in favour of Face ID for logging in.
We will have to wait until next week Wednesday to see if our second attempt at predicting the next Apple device fares any better.
