HONOR unveils AI-focused Alpha Plan at MWC 25

  • HONOR has officially unveiled its Alpha Plan at MWC 25.
  • The company hosted a press conference on day zero of MWC, unpacking the next phase of its AI ecosystem vision.
  • HONOR also debuted a new AI Agent and imaging vision called AiMAGE.

In the weeks leading up to day zero for Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, HONOR said it would be showcasing its Alpha Plan. With day zero now done and dusted, we now know what the Alpha Plan is.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Alpha Plan is very much focused on AI. It is something that HONOR has been working on for a couple of years now, and during its press conference, the company appears to be strengthening its collaborative ties with other industry players also working on developing more AI-powered solutions and ecosystems.

To that end, both Google and Qualcomm appeared on stage with HONOR during the event, while other big tech firms like Microsoft and Snapdragon were mentioned too.

“It is clear that the AI revolution will reshape the paradigm of the device industry – completely transforming our productivity, our society, and even our culture more than ever before. I am calling on all of us to unite together to address the challenges – as well as the many opportunities – of AI technology. I also call on the industry to be truly open so that we can fully embrace this exciting AI future,” explained James Li, CEO of HONOR, in a release to Hypertext.

“THE HONOR ALPHA PLAN comprises three steps: The first step begins with the development of an intelligent phone. HONOR will work with partners to open technology boundaries to co-create a new paradigm for AI devices in the agentic AI era. Next, HONOR will open industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for AI ecosystem in the physical AI era. Finally, in the AGI era, HONOR will open human potential boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for civilization,” the company added.

As such, the ambitions with the Alpha Plan are significant, especially if the company can successfully pull it off, especially as other smartphone makers are similarly looking to collaborate with the leading AI development outfits in the world.

“As we move into the physical AI era, we need to open our industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for the AI ecosystem,” said Li.

The CEO also openly invited others in the industry to collaborate in order to open up AI capabilities for a wider range of devices, enabling seamless collaboration as HONOR aims to co-create “a value-sharing ecosystem” with global partners. Where some smartphone makers are being more closed with their ecosystems, it looks like HONOR wants to try to do the opposite.

To that end, the company has also announced that it will invest more than $10 billion over the next five years to fund this endeavour. How much of that will be put towards the development of an AI-focused ecosystem in South Africa and the rest of the African continent, remains to be seen.

“In the end, we will open human potential boundaries, and co-create a new paradigm for civilization in the AGI era. You will witness the co-existence between carbon-based life and silicon-based intelligence. This is why all of us need to work together to maximize human potential to embrace an intelligent world,” concluded Li.
