Leaked? Galaxy Z Flip7 plays catch up to Motorola

  • We now have a good idea about the Galaxy Z Flip7 screen according to leaks.
  • They suggest that Samsung has gone for an even larger cover screen, one that extends around the cameras similar to the Motorola Razr Plus.
  • Every year Samsung makes an effort to extend the rear cover display for the Z Flip series.

We have new information about what the upcoming clamshell foldable from Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip7 will look like from a noted leaker in the mobiles space.

We have seen a significantly larger cover screen on the Z Flip series every year since the Z Flip4, with the Z Flip6 having the largest back cover screen to the point where one may ask, “why do I even need to unfold this phone anyway?”

This question is getting more relevant according to the latest supposedly leaked renders shared by popular tech news leaker @OnLeaks.

The alleged leaks show how the new cover screen for the Galaxy ZFlip 7 will see the display larger than ever, covering all the previously black space with screen, including around the two back-facing cameras and torch. It is alleged to be a 4.5-inch rear display.

New screen real estate like this would make the ZFlip 7 look a lot like its biggest rival in the clamshell design, the Motorola Razr Plus, which already overs the entire back display covered in screen. The Razr Plus saw an international launch in July 2024, which means Samsung is playing catch-up here with the bigger back screen.

It’s important to note that the Razr Plus is not available in South Africa and likely will never be, unlike the Z Flip7 which will more than likely see the local market just like its previous iterations over the last three years.

Per Android Headlines, the larger cover screen is believed not to affect the price of the upcoming clamshell from Samsung which starts at $1 099. The final rumour for the device is that it will feature a much less visible folding crease than the previous design.

No more information about the device seems to be readily available, and since these are leaks, the final product may look different altogether. But it does make sense, this the South Korean OEM always focuses on making bigger cover screens for its Z Flip in its yearly editions.

With Samsung looking to copy Motorola’s homework, we’re likely to see improved software for the bigger cover screen too. Our personal wish is that they make the cover screen have so many accessible features that there is no reason to unflip the phone to see the interior screen at all. Then we would have finally gone full circle.
