Melon Digital can help brands and businesses launch their own MVNOs

  • Melon Digital has made its services as a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) available to local organisations.
  • It will provide the technology and operational support for brands and businesses to start their own MVNOs without owning a physical network.
  • The company says, “South Africa’s MVNO landscape is on the verge of a major transformation”.

By now, most South Africans should be familiar with Melon Mobile, a fully digital Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that launched locally in 2023. Perhaps less well-known is the company behind it, Melon Digital, which is now making its services as a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) to other local organisations.

In particular, it will provide the technology and operational support needed for brands and businesses to start their own MVNO without owning a physical network.

“Melon Digital is also the only MVNE that can build scalable, bespoke consumer and business facing MVNOs, delivered with simplicity, flexibility, and award-winning innovation,” the company boasted in a release shared with Hypertext.

“The mobile industry has been slow to evolve, and customers have been stuck with outdated, inflexible and expensive solutions for too long. We built Melon Digital to change that – offering a fully digital, scalable platform that makes launching an MVNO easier than ever. Whether you’re an enterprise, a niche brand, or a retail giant, we provide the infrastructure, expertise, and support to bring your mobile network vision to life,” added Calvin Collett (pictured in header), CEO of Melon Digital.

As we have seen in recent years, a number of MVNOs have launched in South Africa, and according to Melon Digital, there will soon be a significant transformation in the local landscape. Here, it cites a report from BMIT, where Johan Nel, senior management consultant, noted that the SA MVNO market is expected to have around 4.8 million active subscribers by the end of this year.

This figure is predicted to rise as high as ~12 million by 2029.

“Melon Digital is committed to delivering a seamless, high-quality mobile experience that meets the evolving needs of the customer. Our platform is agile and adaptable, with comprehensive solutions to keep ahead in a rapidly changing market”, highlighted Collett.

“Its extensive, ready-to-deploy feature library allows us to quickly launch new services and efficiently support multiple MVNO brands under a single MVNE multi-tenant platform, ensuring a reliable and innovative mobile experience for all,” he concluded.
