TikTok rolls out dashboard for users to protect accounts called Security Checkup

  • TikTok is introducing a new solution called Security Checkup.
  • It serves as an all-in-one security dashboard to review and update account security settings.
  • There are as many as five features available in Security Checkup to enhance privacy and control.

It seems like TikTok is prioritising privacy this month. Last week the short-format video platform announced more tools for parents to control what their children do on the app, and this week, more privacy-focused solutions are coming to the fore.

This latest one is called Security Checkup, and is an all-in-one dashboard for users to review and update account security settings. “With its clear, comprehensive view, users can take control, make updates in seconds, and stay safe and secure with confidence,” added TikTok in a blog post.

“Securing your TikTok account has never been easier. Users can access it from their TikTok profile by selecting ‘Settings and privacy’ and tapping ‘Security & permissions’. Once opened, Security Checkup provides a step-by-step guide to key security features designed to keep accounts safe,” it explained.

There are five specific features within the Security Checkup dashboard that TikTok is offering users.

First is locking down your login, which allows users to link both a phone number and email address to an account in order to ensure a backup login method. Added to this is enabling 2-Factor Verification for an extra layer of security when logging in from an unfamiliar device.

Next is the ability to regularly check which devices are logged into your account, along with removing any that are unrecognised or no longer in use. The fourth feature is being able to spot suspicious activity, as TikTok says it can proactively detect unusual account behaviour and flag it in the ‘Security & permissions’ settings for users to review.

Lastly, you can ditch passwords in favour of passkey, where you can access a device using different authentication methods like Face ID or Touch Unlock.

There is no mention of how quickly users will be able to access Security Checkup, but the new offering is said to be available from today onwards.
