- Apple is expected to unveil its anticipated “dramatic” software overhaul in June.
- The overhaul will change the look and feel for all main operating systems of Apple devices.
- The company is now facing controversy over its decision to reveal its agentic Siri which it was not prepared to reveal last year.
Earlier this month, reports told that Apple was working on one of its “most dramatic software overhauls in history” that would change the look and feel of all the company’s major devices, including the iPhone, mac, iPad and Apple Watch ranges.
The system would be revamped for a “new generation of users” with accessibility and even more ease of usage at the top of the design brief. We also learned that it would take inspiration from the software powering Apple’s AR/VR headset, the Vision Pro.
As far as we understand, the overhaul will significantly change how the company’s devices will look from a user interface perspective, change the way many apps function and how users interact with these devices, while additional AI enhancements are not expected in the coming overhaul.
According to fresh reports from Bloomberg, Apple is expected to unveil this dramatic change of all its products at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held during the week of 9th June 2025.
The conference will be held online as per usual, while Apple will deliver an in-person keynote at the beginning of the week. This is where the overhaul is expected to be revealed for the first time alongside additional information such as a launch date.
Bloomberg notes that the launch window for the software overhaul coincides with previously hinted at dates for the upcoming iOS 19, iPad OS19 and macOS 16. We suspect Apple may ditch its current naming convention for its major operating systems as part of the overhaul, especially if it really wants to drive home the “dramatic change” narrative.
At last year’s WWDC, Apple first introduced Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-powered software addon for its devices.
At the time, it said that the AI-powered software “harnesses the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.”
A year later, analysts have called the rollout of Apple Intelligence “disappointing” as features came to devices after long periods of waiting while the reveal of the smarter, agentic Siri is now being called into question in that it is now only expected to launch for users sometime in 2026.
Apple said that the agentic Siri had “richer language-understanding capabilities” and that “Siri is more natural, more contextually relevant, and more personal, with the ability to simplify and accelerate everyday task.”
“It can follow along if users stumble over words and maintain context from one request to the next. Additionally, users can type to Siri, and switch between text and voice to communicate with Siri in whatever way feels right for the moment.”
It is now believed that the company in fact could not reproduce Siri with these qualities outside of demonstrations.
