Best new trailers from the Easter weekend

  • The Easter weekend brought with it several intriguing new trailers.
  • The new trailers range from The Fantastic Four and a Superman behind-the-scenes, along with some horror teasers.
  • The slate of Summer blockbuster films is stacked for 2025.

This past weekend, South Africans kicked back, relaxed, and braaied to their heart’s content for Easter. While we do not want to see another chocolate Easter egg for another 12 months, we have something else to enjoy in the form of new trailers.

Over the past few days, a number of notable new trailers dropped, including a fully fledged offering from Marvcel Studios with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The trailer did not hold back from sharing some major plot points, with Susan Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, being pregnant, as well as viewers getting the to see the Silver Surfer-esque Shalla-Bal.

Not to be outdone, DC Studios shared some behind-the-scenes footage from James Gunn’s Superman film, which is set to go toe-to-toe with The Fantastic Four at the box office in July. Given DC’s lack of wins of late, it will be interesting to see how this reboot will work out, with a lot hinging on the success of the Gunn-directed Superman.

Other notable trailers over the Eatser weekend have a distinct fantasy and horror feel to them. For the latter, we got a glimpse into the second season of The Sandman, which lands on Netflix in July over two volumes. There is also a live-action version of the insane school gambling manga/anime Kakeguri called Bet, although no streaming date has been mentioned.

As for horror, two intriguing new trailers we spotted were HIM and Weapons. The former is produced by Jordan Peele, and takes a sinister look at high-performance athletes. As for Weapons, only an creepy teaser has been shared, with a fictional website also being created to drum up interest in a film centred on the mysterious vanishing of 17 children in a small US town.

No matter what genre of film you enjoy, when the Summer blockbuster season arrives, there will be a smorgasbord of options to enjoy.
