Instax Mini 41 lands in SA next week

  • Fujfilm has another instant camera headed to South Africa in the form of the Instax Mini 41.
  • The new offering is expected as soon as next week, having only been announced a few days ago.
  • It is a restyled version of an instant camera model Fujifilm announced in 2021.

Fujifilm has been cranking out new models of instant camera with increasing regularity in recent years, and the latest offering is the Instax Mini 41.

It is the successor to a model released in 2021, and leans heavily into the stylings of an analogue camera to offer something a little different aesthetically within the ever-growing Instax lineup.

The Instax Mini 41 was unveiled globally only a few days ago, but South African fans of the brand will not have to wait long, as it is expected locally as soon as next week, according to Fujifilm SA.

“The new Mini 41 takes the retro feel of its predecessor and modernises it through a number of sleek stylistic touches. As a start, the Mini 41 incorporates black and dark-toned silver as the base colours, accented with a splash of orange. The lower part of the camera is finely textured for an easy grip, while a textured thumb grip at the back helps with keeping the Mini 41 stable during composition,” the Japanese company highlights in a release shared with Hypertext.

As with most of the recent additions to the Instax stable, when the shutter button is pressed on the Mini 41, film developing in approximately 90 seconds. Said photos are the more traditionally sized 62mm × 46mm variants, with the Mini 41 being classed as highly portable as it weighs 433g (with batteries and a pack of film loaded).

Other notable additions include a Automatic Light Adjustment and a Close-up Mode.

“The Automatic Light Adjustment function senses the level of ambient light when the shutter button is pressed to help optimise the shutter speed and flash output,” explained Fujifilm SA.

The Close-Up Mode, “is activated by rotating the lens by one step. This prevents discrepancies between the viewfinder field and the actual printout area in close-ups. The Close-up Mode works best for images taken between 0.3m to 0.5m.”

While there is no precise date next week when the Instax Mini 41 will be launched locally, it is expected to retail for a recommended R2 249 (including VAT) when it does.
