Schedule I fails to beat Counter-Strike 2 as Steam’s top performer

  • Schedule I is the second-best money maker on Steam.
  • F2P title Counter-Strike 2 is number one.
  • These results come directly from Valve.

The official Steam top sellers, released by Valve itself, have been updated to cover the past week of the period 1st April to 8th April 2025. The big news here is that the crime co-op title Schedule I has managed to be a remarkable success, but that has not been enough to topple Counter-Strike 2.

Launched in Steam Early Access at the tail end of March, Schedule I has managed to be a massive success, thanks to content creators and a decent amount of controversy about the game’s focus on crime.

“You’re a small-time drug dealer rolling into a fresh town with no cash, no product and no connections. Build your drug empire from the ground up in the grungy west-coast city of Hyland Point. Contend against intensifying law enforcement and deadly cartel competitors to expand your empire and reach the peak of the underworld,” reads the official description of the game.

With this premise and the unique art style, sales continue to flood in, allowing the indie title to challenge not only juggernauts like Counter-Strike 2, but also The Last of Us, COD and more. Even R.E.P.O., another indie title thriving on places like YouTube and Twitch, couldn’t compete in the last week.

Below find the top ten performers on Steam, organised by money generated in those seven days. Because this is about actual money and not purely sales, Free to Play (F2P) titles like Counter-Strike 2 are included as they generate money in other ways.

  1. Counter-Strike 2,
  2. Schedule I,
  3. R.E.P.O.,
  4. Steam Deck,
  5. inZOI,
  6. The Last of Us Part II Remastered,
  7. Monster Hunter Wilds,
  8. Call of Duty,
  9. Dead by Daylight,
  10. Split Fiction.

Monster Hunter Wilds continues to be a strong contender on the Steam charts despite the fact that it’s the most expensive title on this list by far. At R1 299 locally, it’s more expensive than both The Last of Us Part II Remastered (R949) and Split Fiction (R799.95).

On the topic of The Last of Us, we have to wonder if sales are being bolstered by the upcoming release of the second season of the show, which will take its story from this second game. The premiere of the second season happens in just a few days on 13th April, so anyone who wants to play the game through before then is running out of time.

Outside of games, the Steam Deck is still managing to bring in strong sales. This is notable with the recent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 pricing as well as the many controversies around it, including the pausing of pre-orders in the US due to the constantly changing tariff situation and the absurdly high price of games.

We’ve seen some sections of the internet state that they’re either sticking to the Steam Deck or finally making a purchase of one now that Nintendo has revealed its hand. Others are sticking by Nintendo, especially given that the Switch 2 is surprisingly powerful. Only time will tell exactly how this situation pans out, especially when the Switch 2 launches globally on 5th June. If the Steam Deck remains a strong seller around this time, it will be extremely telling for the future of handheld gaming.

Lastly, while we mainly focus on the top ten sellers for these lists, it’s worth noting that F2P title Marvel Rivals managed to just miss out and come in 11th place this past week.
