Switch 2 price in South Africa confirmed

  • We have found the retail price for the Nintendo Switch 2 in South Africa.
  • The console starts at R12 499, and while that may not be too bad, launch titles are quite expensive.
  • Mario Kart World will out for nearly R2 000 by the time 5th June 2025 rolls around.

Following the true reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 this week, we pointed out the launch of the console at 5th June 2025, and the international pricing at $450. However, today, the latest Nintendo hand-held console has been listed on the local Nexus Hub and we have a confirmed price in South Africa.

Nexus Hub has listed the consoles at R12 499 for the base version and R13 499 for the version that comes pre-packed with Mario Kart World, the Switch 2’s major launch title. In comparison, the base version of the original Switch costs R6 999 right now on the Nintendo eShop.

Importantly, the Switch 2 does feature far improved graphics hardware as compared to the original, so that does explain some of the price increase in South Africa.

While we assume that pre-orders from Nexus Hub are now available, clicking on “add to cart” does nothing, so this page may have emerged preemptively. Either way, these prices are likely to be the final cost of the Switch 2 seeing as the Nexus Hub is a professional retailer.

Additionally, the Nexus Hub is also listing prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Wireless controller, both Joy-Cons, Joy-Con pairs, the new camera, carry-cases, the new wheel controller and the Joy-Con charging grip.

Software is also being listed, and there is a big, not-so-good surprise in store for South African gamers. Super Mario World, which we expected to be priced at R1 500, is actually listed at R1 900 for South Africans.

Every other launch title, which will be available on 5th June as well, is priced at R1 700, while first-party titles including Donkey Kong Bananza are priced at nearly R2 000. This makes launch titles on the Switch 2 likely the most expensive launch titles South Africa has ever seen.

They include Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 5, Bravely Default, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Star-Crossed World, and Super Mario Party Jamboree.

There is a slate of new games coming to the console in the coming months that may interest gamers as well.
