- Epic Games will allow developers to launch their own webshops, starting in June.
- The new feature comes on the back of the latest judge’s ruling involving Epic Games’ Fortnite and the Apple App Store.
- The webshops can offer users an out-of-app purchase option and not be tied to in-app purchase options.
Epic Games secured a significant win over Apple this week, with Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers tearing into the Cupertino-based company over its App Store practices and how in-app purchase options were handled. In particular, Rogers took Apple to task over its failure to comply with a ruling she made in 2021, with this saga between both parties first kicking off in 2020 over Fortnite.
Following this latest win, Epic Games is luxuriating by announcing a new feature that will be of interest to developers called webshops.
The new feature is set to roll out in June, although a more precise date during the month has not been detailed at the time of writing.
“In June 2025, we are releasing a new feature enabling developers to launch their own webshops hosted by the Epic Games Store. These webshops can offer players out-of-app purchases, as a more cost-effective alternative to in-app purchases, where Apple, Google, and others charge exorbitant fees,” shared Epic Games in a blog post.
“With new legal rulings in place, developers will be able to send players from games to make digital purchases from webshops on any platform that allows it, including iOS in the European Union and United States,” it added.
To further entice developers, Epic Games also confirmed that players spending in webshops, will accrue 5 percent in Epic Rewards on all their purchases too.
One of the other announcements, also set to take effect in June, for any Epic Games Store payments the company processes, developers will pay a 0 percent revenue share on their first $1 000 000 in revenue per app per year.
For anything over the $1 million figure, a standard 88 percent/12 percent revenue share for developers and the Store respectively, will be applied.
Needless to say, this week has not been a good one for Apple’s app marketplace.
