HP OmniBook 5 gets Snapdragon X and X Plus

  • HP has unveiled its latest lineup of OmniBook 5 series laptops to mark the start of Computex 2025.
  • The new laptops feature models powered by Qualcomm’s AI PC-focused Snapdragon X and X Plus processors.
  • They also boast up to 34 hours of battery life and are designed with tertiary students in mind.

It is a big week for tech as Google I/O and Computex kick off tomorrow and today respectively. Regarding the latter, hardware manufacturers are wasting little time in showcasing their latest devices, with the likes of HP updating its OmniBook 5 series with Qualcomm silicon.

More specifically, HP has two new models of OmniBook 5 that can be specced with either the Snapdragon X or X Plus, as the company looks to bring more AI PC options to its customers.

The HP OmniBook 5 Series with Snapdragon, is described as “a category-redefining lineup of AI-powered laptops featuring instant responsiveness, incredible battery life, and always-on efficiency — packed with the full power and performance of a modern AI PC.”

“The newest 14-inch and 16-inch mainstream consumer laptops in the HP OmniBook 5 Series boast the world’s longest battery life in a consumer AI PC notebook,” added HP in a blog post.

Here the company is claiming up to 34 hours of battery life, calling these new laptops “true multi-day PCs”.

HP also noted that there is no drop in CPU performance when unplugged, and when it comes time to recharge, HP Fast Charge can recover up to 50 percent of battery in 30 minutes thanks to a 65W mini adapter that’s nearly half the size and weight of the previous model.

As for the AI PC performance, as with all Snapdragon X and X Plus powered laptops, HP says 45 TOPS is delivered by the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in processors.

“The two new Copilot+ PCs include exclusive AI-powered experiences such as Recall (preview), Click-to-Do (preview), improved Windows Search, Cocreator in Paint, and more. And the built-in HP AI Companion unleashes on-device tools including document analysis and PC performance optimization,” it highlighted.

“The HP OmniBook 5 series with Snapdragon brings a 2K OLED display – long associated with high-end devices into the mainstream, offering rich color, deep contrast, and near edge-to-edge visuals in a device built for everyday life. The devices also offer robust entertainment and collaboration features with a 1080p FHD IR camera, and support for a single 5K external or dual 4K displays to transform the portable companion into an immersive at-home studio. Noisy environment? No problem. HP Audio Boost 2.0 delivers heightened sound clarity with dual speakers, two discrete amplifiers, and AI-powered noise removal to communicate with confidence,” it continued regarding the other notable features of the new laptops.

At the time of writing, local availability and pricing are yet to be detailed, but the OmniBook series is one that HP does sell in SA in an official capacity, so more information is in the offing. For those Stateside, the OmniBook 5 14 starts at $799 (~R14 377) and the OmniBook 5 16 is priced from $840 (~R15 115).
