Eskom has lost control of the power situation, at least that’s what it looks like given the latest power alert from the utility.
At 12:35PM on Monday, Eskom announced that Stage 4 loadshedding would kick in at 13:00. That’s right, 25 minutes of warning were given.
Stage 4 loadshedding will be in effect until Friday at 05:00 and Stage 2 loadshedding will then be in effect until 05:00 on Saturday.
“While Eskom regrets the escalation of loadshedding, it is necessary to ration the remaining emergency generation reserves, which have been utilised extensively this morning as we are not getting the reduction in demand as expected from the implementation of Stage 2 loadshedding,” Eskom said.
Funny that, the fact that people are trying to work on a Monday. Clearly Eskom exists in an alternate timeline where every Monday is a public holiday.
“Total breakdowns currently amount to 14 874MW while planned maintenance is 5 579MW of capacity,” Eskom said.
As always, we advise checking out the Eskom loadshedding site and Eskomsepush on mobile to keep up to date with what times your area will be affected and when to charge necessary devices for the coming week.
Hopefully the utility can get a handle on its one and only competency although if we’re honest, we’re not holding our breath.
