- Loadshedding will take place in some form until Friday.
- Stage 4 loadshedding, in place since 05:30 this morning, remains in place until midnight.
- Loadshedding will only be suspended on Wednesday morning at 05:00.
This morning many South Africans reached for the kettle only to find they had been hit with Stage 4 loadshedding.
Eskom has this afternoon provided an update regarding the outlook for loadshedding for the rest of the week and it resembles a phone number albeit a short one.
Date | Stage | Start | End |
18 October | 4 | – | 0:00 |
19 October | 2 | 0:00 | 5:00 |
19 October | 3 | 16:00 | 0:00 |
20 October | 3 | 16:00 | 0:00 |
21 October | 2 | 16:00 | 0:00 |
The utility has now said that the generation units that broke down over the last 24 hours (the utility previously said overnight) are located at Arnot, Camden, Tutuka and Kusile power stations. By our count that is four power stations and this morning Eskom reported that “five generators at five power stations” had broken down. Clearer communication really is needed.
The good news, if that can exist alongside Stage 4 loadshedding, is that generation units at Duhva and Medupi power stations returned to service since Monday. Three units at Kendal power station were also brought back online.
“We currently have 5 106MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 576MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns,” Eskom wrote in a power alert.
Given that Eskom has made last minute loadshedding a habit, we urge you to make use of EskomSePush for Android and iOS. We know it’s easier to ask your community WhatsApp group but download the app so you don’t have to rely on your neighbours.
