- This pricing is still true to the overseas RRP.
- Shipping issues affecting other industries don’t seem to have touched LEGO.
For a few months now LEGO has been revealing some enticing sets for fans and pinning an August release on all of them. This has next month shaping up to be one of the biggest – if not the biggest – release windows for 2024.
South Africans haven been patiently waiting to see how much these sets will cost in the country, and that information has finally been revealed by Great Yellow Brick. For those unaware, Great Yellow Brick is the online store for the physical LEGO Certified Stores in the country, and their pricing is the RRP of sets in South Africa.
Because of this we usually wait to see pricing from Great Yellow Brick so we can have a better perspective on pricing overall.
You can view all the current August sets here but we’ll have them below in list form so you can quickly get an idea of what local pricing looks like.
By our count there are 50 sets for August 2024 which may actually seem small given that some release windows in recent memory creep above a hundred. While 50 new sets is still a lot, what makes August so special is the sets themselves and not just the pure number that is available. We’ll have a separate story in that soon.
We did a quick comparison to some important sets to see if South Africans are paying a fair price and it seems like, overall, we are. For example, the most expensive set of the wave is the McLaren P1 at R8 499 or consider the much anticipated Jaws set for R2 999. These sets, overseas, cost €450 and €150 respectively. This converts to around R8 935 and R2 978 respectively, so South Africans are paying around the same compared to those in the EU.
We have to also mention that we’re surprised that LEGO sets continue to arrive in South Africa on the date as overseas countries, despite the current Red Sea crisis and other shipping problems affecting world logistics.
