- Microsoft warns that gamers will experience problems when trying to play certain Ubisoft games.
- If Microsoft detects one of the games before applying the update, the update won’t be deployed.
- Both Microsoft and Ubisoft are working on a fix.
Gamers running Windows 11 may be inadvertently preventing the latest update from being installed because of the titles on their PC. The update in question is Windows 11 24H2 which brings with it several improvements and new features.
Microsoft says it has discovered a problem that users may encounter if they have certain Ubisoft games installed and install the 24H2 update. These issues include the game becoming unresponsive while starting, loading or playing the game. In some cases this can lead to a black screen.
The games in question are:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
The latest update for Star Wars Outlaws is said to address this problem but Ubisoft is working on a “more permanent fix”.
However, if you try to install the games above after applying the 24H2 update you may encounter problems. As such, it’s advised that owners of these titles avoid installing them until the problem has been resolved. We recommend checking this page for updates.
If you have one of the aforementioned games installed, Microsoft will actively block the update from being installed.
“We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved,” Microsoft wrotes.
If those games aren’t detected – despite being installed on your computer – and the Windows update sneaks through Microsoft has a solution for solving any crashes you may experience.
- Open Task Manager. This can be accomplished by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Start button and select Task Manager from the menu.
- In the Task Manager window, look for your game in the Processes tab. It might be listed under the name of the game or the game launcher.
- Click on the game’s name to highlight it. Then, click the End Task button at the bottom right of the window. This will close the game.
Microsoft and Ubisoft are working to solve this issue but there’s no word on when a fix can be expected. In the mean time, you may want to try playing something else until this crashing issue is resolved.
