SPEEDRUN – What you missed at Google’s AI I/O opening

Google’s I/O conference kicked off on Tuesday and it may as well rename the developer event to AI I/O given the focus on artificial intelligence. At the opening keynote Google announced a flurry of new products that utilise AI including a new AI Mode in Search, shopping solutions and Google AI Ultra for $250 a month. Local robotics and coding teacher within the ADvTECH group has received the 2025 EDGE in Tech Athena Award from the University of California, Berkeley’s Banatao Institute. She is the only local educator to receive the award which recognises the work educators do to bring learners into the technology space. ““I believe every child deserves to see themselves in STEAM. Through coding and robotics, I strive to ignite confidence, curiosity, and creativity in learners, especially those who don’t yet realise they belong in tech,” Smith said of her award.

CO2 levels in the Southern Ocean are making the ocean more acidic according to researchers who recently returned from an expedition to Marion Island. Also of note is that warmer waters from the North are arriving in the ocean, making it warmer. Both the acidity and warmth threaten the delicate balance of the marine ecosystem in the region.
