  • The Shoprite Group is making its specialist training and educational programmes available to South African youth throughout 2023.
  • The Group is calling on people aged 18 to 34 to consider its YES Initiative, which offers 12 months on-the-job training.
  • Upon successful completion of the Retail Readiness Programme, participants receive NQF-level 3 part-qualifications.

Much has been made about the rising unemployment in South Africa, and aiming to help address this is the Shoprite Group, which is calling upon local youth to consider one of its specialist training or educational programmes that it will be making available throughout the rest of 2023.

The Group is specifically inviting youth aged 18 to 34 to apply for its Retail Readiness Programme or YES Initiative.

The former has seen the Group invest over R586 million into more than 32 000 learners since 2016. This year the seven-week programme is described as equipping unemployed youth with the basic skills required to work in a retail environment or to start their own business. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants receive NQF-level 3 part-qualifications.

The YES Initiative is a longer commitment as 12 months-long, but offers on-the-job training throughout, with various in-store service departments, including the bakery, deli and fresh foods. The Shoprite Group says it has created 7 387 work opportunities for youth since 2018 via the Initiative.

To apply for one of the Group’s youth development programmes, there are three avenues available:

  • Send a WhatsApp to 087 240 5709 and select Job Opportunities ,
  • Visit the jobs portal here,
  • Submit your CV at the nearest Shoprite, Checkers, or Usave supermarket.

Those interested are also advised to visit the Shoprite Group’s Youth Opportunities web page for more information.
