The past two weeks have been less than kind to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, after some test units of the devices given to reviewers across the globe starting to show screen quality issues.

It has since prompted the South Korean manufacturer to delay the launch of the Galaxy Fold, which was anticipated to be this week locally, with no precise new date mentioned as the company investigated the screen issues plaguing their foldable handset.

While Samsung is still yet to confirm the Fold’s new launch date, American carrier AT&T has seemingly done it for them, telling their customers who have pre-ordered the new foldable device that it will ship on 13th June.

As pointed out by The Verge, this date is more than likely a placeholder and not something set in stone, as AT&T probably wants to give their customers a cautious update about the status of the new device. As such Samsung could potentially have new display-sporting models of the Fold ready and waiting before 13th June, or after that date should they run into any other issues.

Regardless it’s a rather risky move on AT&T’s part, especially if the worst case scenario happens and Samsung is forced to delay the launch of the Galaxy Fold once again. That happening would certainly dent any confidence that consumers have in both Samsung and AT&T.

While this latest device issue is not on the scale of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco from a few years ago, it’s definitely not a good look for Samsung.

At this stage, no local Samsung representatives have commented on the status of the Galaxy Fold, and when its new launch date is expected to be for South Africa.

How the South Korean firm aims to win back consumer confidence after this, remains to be seen.
