When BlackBerry 10 launched there was the promise that Android apps would easily be able to be ported across to the new platform giving BB10 the possibility of nearly 900 000 apps being almost instantly available for it. The problem with the implementation was that developers could only use Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 runtime, a version that is over 2 years old already. With the release of BlackBerry 10.2’s SDK developers can finally access the full Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean runtime, giving users the promise that all of the latest Android applications will start to come to the fledgling OS.
