Yellow Jacket thinks that iPhone cases are boring. Most of them just protect the phone, or extend its battery life, but few will give the user that same benefit. So it’s released the Yellow Jacket Case, featuring a built-in taser.

That’s right, 650 000 volts of electricity are now available from the very device you keep in your pocket at all times. Your next mid-town mugging might not need you to use Apple’s Find my iPhone feature, after all. As a bonus, the same battery that powers the taser on this case can also juice up your phone, and the case also protects your phone from bumps and knocks.

It’s not even that expensive, in real terms. A mere $140 (around R1 400) gets you one of these, but at the moment only the iPhone 4/4S model is available. Available for pre-order are the Yellow Jacket for the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Import at your own peril – these aren’t available officially, through local channels.

Eleven years ago Christo started writing about technology for one of South Africa's (then) leading computer magazines. His first review? A Samsung LCD monitor. Hey, it was hot news, back then. Nowadays he gets more excited about photography, cars, game consoles, and faster internet connections. He's sort of an Apple fan, but will take any opportunity to remind you about his Windows-powered home theatre PC and desire to own a vanilla Android tablet.   Currently uses: Apple 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display, Apple iPhone 5, Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000, Audiofly AF78 Earphones, Xbox 360, Nikon D50.
