Dark Fibre Africa to offer fibre to the home in Parkview and Greenside

It seems like all the Parks in Johannesburg are lining up to get its residents connected to their own Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network. With the suburbs of Parktown and Parkhurst pioneering the connectivity in Johannesburg, Parktown is now on the cards as well.

The Parkview Residents’ Association (PRA) announced this afternoon that its FTTH project’s connectivity will be provided by Dark Fibre Africa (DFA), connecting Parkview and Greenside East to the fastest network possible in South Africa – speeds of up to 1Gbps.

“We are delighted that DFA will be providing Parkview residents a high quality fibre to the home network in Parkview and that leading ISPs will be offering Internet services on an open access network enabling real choice and competition in the suburb. We are looking forward to working with them to make Parkview a connected suburb for all – providing great community services to schools and public spaces in Parkview,” said Indra de Lanerolle, Chairman of ConnectParkview, in a media statement.

In terms of what residents will have to fork out for access, no firm pricing has been confirmed but PRA is expecting it to be around R600 including data a month for 10Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mpbs services.

“We expect prices to start below R600 per month. For less than R1,000 per month you could have a  very fast 50Mbps line with a phone, cheaper phone calls, 100GB internet cap per month – enough for a lot of movies –  and all with 1GB of mobile data included. This would enable you to drop your phone line altogether (saving R166.50 each month),” a ConnectParkview newsletter to resident read.

According to the letter, it will still be awhile before resident will be able to surf through DFA, as it is only planned to go live in April next year. In the coming weeks, DFA will be applying for the necessary permissions required, and if all goes well will start construction in January.

If you are one of the lucky one to live in Parktown and Greenside East, you can send an email to connect@parkview.org.za with ‘Please contact me’ in the Subject line and your name, address, email and phone contact details in the body of the email.
